The Canadian Cancer Society's Cancer Information Service: Information and Support, Wherever You Are on Your Cancer Journey

You may have heard of the Canadian Cancer Society's Cancer Information Service. You may have even used this national, toll-free service in the past. With a single phone call or email, cancer patients, their families and the general public have access to credible and comprehensive information about cancer and community resources.
So what's new at the Cancer Information Service?
We are very excited about our new follow-up program which enhances the service we provide for our callers by extending help throughout their cancer journey. When someone contacts the Cancer Information Service, they may now be offered a follow-up call depending on their needs. One of our information specialists will contact them a few weeks later to see if there are any new questions or concerns at that time.

Call us with your questions toll-free at 1 888 939-3333 Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm. Our service is confidential and available in English and French. For other languages, we can access an interpreter service. Or you can reach us by email at cancerinfo@bc.cancer.ca.

FOCUSING ON THE FUNDAMENTALS FOR FACILITATORS: Building Blocks for Starting and Sustaining a Support

Willow Breast Cancer Services provides this workshop which offers training for both new and experienced facilitators on how to develop and sustain community-based, peer-led, breast cancer or hereditary (BRCA 1/2) support groups. This workshop will be held March 5 - 7, 2010 in Richmond BC.

Willow's Support Group Program offers workshops throughout Canada that provide breast cancer survivors and high risk women with the tools they need to start and sustain community-based support groups. Trainees develop their facilitation skills and gain increased confidence through the workshop's networking opportunities.

The Scotiabank Group recognizes the unique and invaluable service provided by the Support Group Program and, therefore, sponsors all eligible participant expenses, including registration, accommodations and transportation. The Hereditary (BRCA 1/2) Support Group Training program is made possible by a generous grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Willow has extended its reach to support women who are at risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.
