BCGENERATIONS PROJECT - UNDERSTANDING FUTURE GENERATIONS

Over four years, the BC Generations Project will collect information and biospecimens from 40,000 British Columbians between 40 and 69 years old. This collection will form the basis of thousands of studies over the next few decades that seek to understand how to prevent cancer and other chronic diseases. This project is part of a national initiative that will recruit and follow 300,000 Canadians on a long term basis and is the largest of its kind ever undertaken in Canada.

We want to understand how the environment, lifestyle and genes contribute to chronic diseases, for the benefit of future generations. We need volunteers to visit us and spend about 90 minutes to donate information, and give a blood and urine sample. The BC Generations Project is funded by the federal government and operated through the BC Cancer Agency. It respects all national and provincial guidelines with respect to privacy and confidentiality.

This project will help us understand internal and external factors that contribute to the development of cancer and other chronic diseases, and may lead to interventions that will protect our children and grandchildren.
